Steps in Building Fine Hardwood Tables

Each step in the manufacturing process of Amish Tradition’s fine hardwood tables is briefly explained below.  The process involves meticulous quality control at each level.  We enjoy knowing that the hard work that goes into each table will bring you and your family years of enjoyment.

 LUMBER SELECTION

The first and one of the most important steps in producing a fine hardwood table is the selection of the best, most consistent hardwood from a reliable supplier.  We insist on good color and grain patterns to give you the beauty you expect.

Before the lumber arrives at our manufacturing facilities, the edges are sealed with a wood stabilizer.  The lumber is stored in a humidity controlled environment to minimize expansion and contraction during the manufacturing process until it reaches your kitchen.

CUTTING TABLE TOPS

The boards are then cut to width and length.  Our table top shapes are cut by hand on a band saw.  The edges are sanded to ultimate smoothness then the entire top is sanded to the exact thickness.

ASSEMBLY

When sanding is completed each edge is made to an exact fit.  Next the boards are put together to the best match in grain and wood color.  Then holes are drilled for pins.  Slides, base plate, and aprons are then assembled.

PREPARATION FOR FINISHING

First the tops are sanded in a custom sander for the proper fitting of all leaves.  Then the edges are profiled.  For the final touch before finishing, the tops are sanded by hand with an air sander then sanded by hand with a block sander.  At this point all edges are again sealed with a wood stabilizer.

FINISHING

Each table is stained by hand and gets the extra touch of uniform hand-rubbed stain.  For years of maintenance-free use our tables receive three coats of catalyzed heat and moisture resistant finish.  This finish assures years of protection against heat and moisture.

INSPECTION AND PACKAGING

Before each table leaves our plant tops are fully assembled and carefully checked for defects in material and workmanship.

The above steps assure your satisfaction with our fine hardwood tables.  We are confident that your decision to invest in this quality table today will bring you years of trouble-free use and enjoyment and become a treasured family heirloom for tomorrow!

The beauty of solid hardwood is much more than "skin deep".  Neither synthetic nor engineered, it comes from nature -- the simplest and most reliable of origins.

Trees grow limbs, which fall to the forest floor as the tree matures.  What remains are knots in the wood.  Each time you see a knot on a hardwood surface, you'll know a tree limb once grew from that spot.  These natural markings have absolutely no effect on the wood's durability and structural integrity.  Knots and other characteristics are much like the nubs you find in such fine natural fabrics as silk and linen; they are indications of genuine quality.
Our solid hardwood tables are made up of many pieces of wood.  Each is unique and you may notice natural variations in color.  The lighter pieces were closer to the tree's bark, while the darker pieces were closer to the tree's center.  All are equally strong and impart the beauty and value that make solid hardwood second to none.

The unique grain patterns of solid hardwoods are related to the tree's growth rings.  The distinctive differences come about as the wood is prepared for use in your home.

Trees absorb minerals and other essentials as they grow and prosper.
You may see their traces in our tables.  These natural characteristics let
you know you are enjoying the authentic item, and not an artificial wood imitation.
